President Bashar al-Assad receives a delegation of senior Islamic scholars in Damascus on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan
On April 11th, President Bashar al-Assad received a delegation of senior Islamic scholars in Damascus on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan, in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyid, Minister of Islamic Trusts (Awqaf).
The discussion centered on the role of the religious institution and on concepts and terms that are sometimes put forward by some with implications that contradict faith, and the importance of religious scholars adopting terminology in a way that suits the essence and purposes of religion.
In this context, President al-Assad referred to the correct concept of the term renewal and religious reform, stressing that the scholars of the religious establishment in Syria had passed important stages in developing this institution and reforming the misconceptions that had permeated the scholars for long periods of time, which directly contributed to the reform of society.
President al-Assad considered that the deep concept of the term renewal depends on our ability to delve into religion as deeply as we can from science, based on the principle that the Holy Qur’an is for all ages and circumstances.
President al-Assad spoke about the principle of shura, considering that it is necessary to present broader ideas that benefit the whole nation and society.
President al-Assad stressed the importance of returning to the teachings of religion as revealed by God, and returning to the primary source of legislation, namely the Qur’an and the Hadith.
President al-Assad said that religious institutions in the Islamic world are facing great and very rapid challenges from the ideological point of view, especially facing the intellectual battle.
The scholars spoke during the meeting about the great development witnessed by the religious institution in all its sectors, platforms and scholars through the methodology drawn by President al-Assad in his repeated meetings with scholars to preserve the moderation of Islam and the position of Syria as a civilizational beacon from which the values of Islam and its mercy to the worlds radiate.
