President Bashar Al-Assad discusses with the President of Abkhazia bilateral cooperation, prospects for its development, and political issues
On May 17th, President Bashar Al-Assad received Mr. Aslan Bjania, President of the Republic of Abkhazia, who is heading a high-ranking official delegation on a five-day visit to the Syrian Arab Republic.
Presidents Al-Assad and Bjania held two extended and bilateral talks during which they discussed bilateral cooperation and the prospects for its development, and joint work to strengthen relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, they confirmed that the bilateral relations are based on a solid foundation of the components and common elements that bind Syria and Abkhazia in terms of their adherence to their independent decisions, and their resistance to colonial domination despite their exposure to siege and wars, military, economic and political terrorism, and in terms of diversity in the social fabric, and the common ties between the two friendly people.
They also discussed a number of issues of political concern, the situation in Syria and Abkhazia, the pressures facing countries, the massacres committed by “Israel” in the Palestinian territories, and its continuous encroachments on the rights of the Palestinians, in addition to the situation in Ukraine and the Russian Republic of Crimea, and attempts to escalate Western Russia against the Russian Federation in these two files.
An official reception ceremony was held for the Abkhaz President upon his arrival at the People’s Palace, where President Al-Assad was at the forefront of his receivers.
The delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia includes Valery Kvarchia, Speaker of the National Assembly, Alkhas Kvitsina, Head of Administration for the President’s Office, Beslan Goboa, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Christina Ozgan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Daur Kofi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tamuraz Kheshba, Minister of Tourism, Bagrat Khotaba, Abkhazia Ambassador to Syria.
On the Syrian side, the talks were attended by Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mansour Azzam, Minister of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Rami Martini, Minister of Tourism, Zuhair Khazim, Minister of Transport and Head of the Honor Mission, Muhammad Hassan Qatna, Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform and Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, and Luna Al-Shabel, the two special advisers in the Presidency of the Republic.
On October 6, 2020, an embassy of the Republic of Abkhazia was opened in Damascus, to contribute to developing and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields.
