President Assad’s condolences at Patriarch Iwas funeral in Damascus

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ On behalf of President Bashar al-Assad, Minister for Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam offered condolences at the funeral ceremony prayers on the demise of Patriarch Mar Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East for the Syriac Orthodox Church and Supreme Head of the world Syriac Orthodox Church at St. George church in Damascus, today.

The body of His Holiness Patriarch Iwas was laid yesterday at St. George cathedral in Bab Touma, where his body was bid farewell by a delegation from the Ministry of Awqaf, several heads and representatives of the Christian communities in Syria and a number of Islamic scholars and intellectuals.

Patriarch Iwas passed away last Friday in a medical center in Germany.
