President Al-Assad : “We, as Arabs, need to lay down the foundations for political relations based on the interests of peoples”
DAMASCUS, Jan. 31, (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad received on Monday the Omani Foreign Minister Bader Bin Hamad Al-Bousaedi and the accompanying delegation.
The talks between the two sides dealt with the distinguished relations between Syria and Oman and the fields of bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
The two sides asserted the need to go ahead with work at all levels with the aim of enhancing these relations through building on the principles and common interests that gather the two countries and peoples and through establishing partnerships in various sectors for the interest of the Syrian and Omani peoples and the peoples of the Arab region.
Moreover, the two sides spoke about the recent developments in Arab and regional arenas and the issues of common interest.
President Al-Assad referred to the mutual understanding and the same visions of the countries towards these issues. He also pointed out to the balanced role and the firm policies and stances of Oman towards Syria as well as its support for the Syrian people in fighting terrorism.
“What we, the Arabs, lack, is a system of political relations and rational dialogue based on the interests of the peoples.. Dealing with developments in Arab society requires changes in political rapprochements and thinking of our interests and positions at international arenas,” the president said.
For his part, the Omani minister conveyed to President Al-Assad the greetings of Sultan Haitham Bin Tareq and his keenness on Oman’s firm stances towards Syria.
“Syria is a main party in the Arab world and its brave and strong stances and policies make us depend on it in confronting the challenges that face us,” the minister asserted.
The visiting Omani minister and the accompanying delegation arrived today in Damascus and they were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad.
