President Al-Assad to Vershinin: Western attempts to disrupt Syria’s efforts to restore security and stability countrywide will not succeed
On June 26th, President Bashar Al-Assad held political discussions with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin.
The discussions focused on bilateral relations and coordination between the two countries, especially in the light of recent developments, on issues of combating terrorism and on joint efforts to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees to their country.
President Al-Assad affirmed that all Western efforts to disrupt the efforts of the Syrian state to restore security and stability on all of its territory will not succeed, and that these efforts are proceeding in accordance with the Syrian’ aspirations for recovery and stability.
President Al-Assad reiterated Syria’s support for the Russian position regarding the situation in Ukraine and its rejection of all Western attempts hostile to Moscow in this context.
In turn, Vershinin conveyed to President Al-Assad the greetings of President Vladimir Putin and his appreciation for the status of the relationship between the two countries.
Vershinin noted the need to move within a new phase in international relations in the light of the fear of the United States and its Western allies of losing their political and economic control at the global level.
Vershinin praised Syria’s recent political successes at the Arab and international levels, affirming the importance of the Syrian-Russian coordination at international forums and their joint efforts to combat terrorism. He reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Syria in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Al-Mikdad, Vershinin discuss cooperation between Syria and Russia at international Forums
Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al Mikdad and Vershinin stressed the need to enhance cooperation and political consultation and coordination between the Foreign Ministries and the diplomatic missions of both countries at international forums.
During their meeting today, the two officials discussed cooperation in files pertaining to the work of international organizations.
Viewpoints of the two sides were identical on the issues discussed.
Al-Mikdad affirmed Syria’s support for Russia’s special military operation in Donbas in order to counter attempts aimed at undermining Russia’s sovereignty, strength and stability.
Vershinin, in turn, expressed his country’s continued support for Syria to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity against terrorist groups and the attempts to disrupt its efforts for early recovery.
He stressed Russia’s keenness to support Syria and coordinate with it in various areas.
