President Al-Assad to Muraleedharan: Heading Eastward is one of the most important principles of the Syrian policy

President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that the principle of heading Eastward is one of the most important principles on which the Syrian policy is based, not only in terms of economic or political relations but also in terms of the values and principles on which the East depends, and India is an essential part of this East and these are the very principles on which we believe and act in Syria.

President Al-Assad made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Vellamvelly Muraleedharan.

The president affirmed the depth of the historical relations between Syria and India, thanking the Indian government for its objective position on Arab issues, for its stance on the war that targeted Syria’s sovereignty and independent decision, and for the support it provided to Syria during the earthquake disaster.

President Al-Assad pointed to the need for good relations among countries of the Asian continent, because the only way for the West to pursue hegemony is to create conflicts and disagreements between states; therefore, “the common interest requires that relations between our States remain stable so that they can play a vital role in the new multipolar world that is beginning to take shape.”

For his part, the Indian Minister conveyed to President Assad the greetings of India’s President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stressing that relations between India and Syria are historical and constantly booming despite all circumstances.

Muraleedharan stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the development field, saying, “We are keen to continue our cooperation both in the medical and educational sector for the benefit of the Syrian society, and we look forward to developing cooperation in the economic fields.”

Muralidharan added that India’s position is always based on the fact that the solution in Syria must be solely in the hands of the Syrians.

“We are pleased that Syria is restoring its stability and we positively view the return of the normal course of Syria’s relations with its Arab environment,” he pointed out.
