President al-Assad to Khaji: The battle of Idlib aims at eliminating terrorism that threatens the security and safety of Syrian citizens

President Bashar al-Assad received today Ali Asghar Khaji, the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs and his accompanying delegation.

Khaji briefed President Al-Assad on the latest developments of the recent Astana meeting and the discussions that took place during it, especially on the topic of the Constitution Discussion Committee and developments in the Syrian Jazeera region. During the meeting President Al-Assad referred to the attempts of other parties and countries that hinder the work of the committee in order to deviate it from its tasks and purpose.

The Iranian delegation also presented the most important points that were discussed in the recent Geneva meeting between Iran, Russia and Turkey.

Members of the delegation praised the progress of the Syrian Arab Army in the Syrian Jazeera region and congratulated President al-Assad and the Syrian people on the victories achieved by the military operation in Idlib.

President al-Assad made clear that Idlib battle aimed at eliminating terrorism that threatens the security and safety of Syrian citizens, stressing that the anti-terrorist operation is ongoing and is a priority for the Syrian state, above all else.

 

The meeting dealt with the bilateral relations between the two countries, where Khaji stressed Iran’s support to Syria in achieving the interests of the Syrian people and preserving the country’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.

Presidential Political and Media Adviser Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Miqdad, and Director of the Asian Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Raad attended the meeting.

In the same context, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Muallem discussed with Khaji and his accompanying delegation the latest developments in Syria relating to combating terrorism and the political process.

The meeting also centered on the various political developments and events in the region and the different challenges facing both countries, especially due to the escalation of the United States of America and its allies against the two brotherly countries and their conspiracies targeting their independence and principled positions.

The views were consistent on all issues that were discussed, and the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the two countries at all levels and on various issues and developments was emphasized during the meeting.

Deputy Minister Al-Miqdad, Director of the Department of Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Raad and Director of the Administration of the Private Office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mohammad al-Omrani , and Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Syria Javad Turkabadi attended the meeting.
