President Al-Assad to Greek Politicians: Western Countries Have a Problem with Syria Because of Its Independent Decision

DAMASCUS, (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad has stressed that the visits made by European parliamentarians and leaders of political parties to Syria to get a real image about events in the country would  help their government correct their policies towards the region.

President Al-Assad was speaking during his meeting on Tuesday with a Greek political delegation comprising the Greek Parliament member and leader of the Christian Democratic Party of the Overthrow Nikolaos Nikolopoulos, member of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) Theodore Katsanevas  and senior members of the two parties.

Talks during the meeting dealt with the situation in Syria, the threat posed by terrorism to the region and Europe, historical relations between Syria and Greece and the need to revive and boost these relations.

The president said that the heinous terrorist war the Syrian people have been facing are  a lesson to be learnt by countries of the region and the entire world, adding that an evidence of this can be noticed in the terrorism wave which hit a number of countries in Europe and other parts of the world.

President Al-Assad affirmed that the western countries have a problem with Syria because of its independent decision, so they supported terrorists to weaken the Syrian state and turn it into a subordinating country, but, according to president Al-Assad, these policies have reflected negatively on the interests of the peoples of  these countries at the social and security level.

President Al-Assad reiterated that the Syrian people are determined to keep steadfast in defense of their homeland and independent decision.

On their part, members of the guest delegation voiced their support for Syria as it constitutes the first defense line in the face of terrorism. They affirmed that they will do their best as to correct the wrong image the Greek people have got about the situation in Syria and to convince their government that terrorism is the common enemy threatening all and that it is the interest of the Greek people to back Syria in its war against terrorism.
