President Bashar Al-Assad on Saturday received Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdollahian and the accompanying delegation.
Talks dealt with the strong historical relations between Syria and Iran and with cooperation in all fields.
President Al-Assad stressed Damascus keenness on continuous coordination with Iran, particularly as Iran was among the first countries that backed the Syrian people in their war on foreign-backed terrorism.
He pointed out that this coordination is of great importance to achieve the common interest of the two countries, especially in the light of the accelerating regional and international developments.
Abdollahian, for his part, said that Syria is an influential country and a key player in the region, therefore, Syria’s strength and development gives strength and development to the region in general and to Iran in particular.
The Iranian top diplomat reiterated that Iran trusts the Syrian stances and decisions and sees that any serious dialogue between Syria and Turkey will be a positive step that serves the interests of the two countries and the entire region.
President Al-Assad affirmed that the stances of the Syrian state are always based on achieving the interests of the Syrian people.
“Syria won’t go ahead with such dialogue unless it is based on ending the occupation and stopping the support being provided to terrorist organizations”, President Al- Assad reiterated.
