President Al-Assad: the safety of civilians in every Syrian spot priority

DAMASCUS, (ST)_ President Bashar Al-Assad discussed here today with the visiting UN Special Envoy, Staffan De Mistura, the proposal presented by De Mistura to the UN Security Council regarding the situation in Syria.

In their meeting, De Mistura briefed President Al-Assad on the main points  and objectives of his initiative regarding the freezing of fighting in the city of Aleppo.

 H.E. President Al-Assad underscored the importance of Aleppo and the keenness of the State on the safety of civilians in every Syrian spot, considering De Mistura’s initiative as worthy of study and try to work on as to reach its objectives for the restoration of security to Aleppo.

H.E. President Al-Assad and Mr. De Mistura agreed on the importance of implementing UN Security Council resolutions numbered 2170 and 2178 and on the rallying of international efforts  for the combating of terrorism in Syria and in the region threatening the entire world.

De Mistura, at the end of the meeting, expressed his determination to pursue his mission with all sides as to alleviate difficulties reaching to stability and peace in Syria.

Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and the UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan De Mistura held talks yesterday on the results of De Mistura’s visits to several capitals in addition to the UN Security Council’s recent discussions on the crisis in Syria.

The talks included De Mistura’s initiative at the Security Council about the situation in Aleppo and the need to implement the Security Council resolutions on Fighting terrorism, particularly Resolution No. 2170 which provides for combating Daesh, al-Nousra Front and other al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups, in addition to resolution No. 2178 which asserts that all countries should commit themselves to preventing foreign terrorists from entering Syria and Iraq.
