DAMASCUS , (ST)- President Bashar Al-Assad on Thursday received a message from the Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi conveyed to him by Iraq’s National Security Advisor Faleh al-Fayyad.

The message focused on issues relating to fighting terrorism and the security of borders particularly in the light of the latest developments in the region. It also dealt with boosting economic cooperation, opening the border crossings between Syria and Iraq and enhancing  bilateral relations and high-level coordination.

The meeting between President Al-Assad and the Iraqi official concentrated on regional and international developments.

President Al-Assad stressed that “the foreign aspirations in our region never stopped and the Turkish aggression being launched by Erdogan’s regime on our country comes within the framework of these aspirations regardless of the false slogans it carries.”

“It is a flagrant invasion and a clear aggression against which Syria has retaliated through fighting Erdogan’s agents and terrorists in different places in the country and will retaliate against it by all possible legitimate means,” President Al-Assad said.

On his part, Fayyad emphasized that Syria and Iraq will continue the joint work at all levels to serve the interests of the Iraqi and Syrian people and achieve peace and security in both countries.
