PRAGUE, (ST)-“President Bashar Al-Assad should be a party in any talks aiming to solve the crisis in Syria,” Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomir Zaoralek has underscored, urging the European Union countries to unify their stances towards Damascus.
The Czech news agency cited Zaoralek as saying yesterday upon his arrival in Luxemburg to attend the meeting of the EU foreign ministers that it was necessary to talk to Russia on stopping the fight in Syria.
“Russia is part of the solution in Syria because through cooperation with Russia we can look for a state of new balance that leads to ending the fight in the country,” the Czech minister clarified.
The foreign ministers of the European Union in addition to Sweden, Denmark and Slovakia have urged dialogue with Russia on Syria and called for preparing “a realistic strategy aiming to attain settlement in Syria”.
“It is not possible for the European Union to have two different stances on the crisis in Syria…All parties should abandon behaving according to their own interests, rather they should seek unifying efforts to stop violence,” Zaoralek said.
