President Al-Assad Sends a Letter to Ecuador’s Correa

QUITO, (ST)- President Bahsar Al-Assad sent a letter to President Rafael Correa of Ecuador appreciating the Ecuadorian government’s support for Syria.

The letter was handed by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faisal al-Mikdad to the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino during a meeting on Monday.

Patino, who conveyed President Correa’s greetings to President Al-Assad, stressed Ecuador’s support for Syria against all threats and attempts of foreign intervention in the country, reiterating the importance of respecting Syria’s sovereignty and independence and the necessity of restoring security and stability to Syria.

He also warned against repeating the scenario implemented by Western countries in Libya.

For his part, al-Mikdad spoke about the vicious campaign Syria is being exposed to targeting her principled stances towards the schemes designed for the region.

Al-Mikdadd said Syria is facing an aggression by Western countries through their tools in Syria and the region, referring to the support provided by Turkey and some Gulf states to armed terrorist groups aiming to destabilize Syria.

He stressed the Syrian people’s steadfastness and rallying behind the leadership of President Al-Assad to foil the conspiracy.

Bilateral ties between Syria and Ecuador were also discussed during the meeting between al-Mikdad and Panito.
