President Al-Assad receives Chinese Foreign Minister, stresses China is a strong country and a key international player

President Bashar Al-Assad on Saturday received China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the accompanying delegation. Talks dealt with the deep-rooted historical ties between Syria and China and with opening new and wider prospects of cooperation in all fields to serve the interests of the peoples of the two countries.

“China is a strong country with an important position in the international arena and Syria is looking forward to expanding fields of cooperation with it at various levels based on China’s strong presence and ethical policies that serve most countries and peoples of the world,” President Al-Assad said.

He thanked China for the support it has provided to the Syrian people in different fields and hailed Beijing’s important stances in support of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.

During the meeting, president Al-Assad and the Chinese minister discussed Syria’s participation in the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

Wang Yi said that his country is greatly concerned in Syria’s participation in this initiative due to its important position and role in the region.

Wang Yi stressed that his country will continue supporting the Syrian people in their war on terrorism and in the confrontation of the siege and inhuman sanctions imposed on them. He also affirmed China’s rejection of all attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Syrian people and to undermine Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Chinese top diplomat conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s congratulations to President Al-Assad on winning presidential elections, pointing out that the success of this electoral process indicates the Syrian people’s victory and reflects their firm determination to resist all the challenges and hegemony attempts facing the country.
