DAMASCUS, Jan. 20 (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad received on Thursday the Russian President’s Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and the accompanying delegation.
The talks between the two sides dealt with the recent development at the regional and international arenas and political issues of common interest.
The president said that the western pressures being put on Russia relating to several files are reactions to its active and key role at the international arena and its defense of international law and its stance against the immoral policies of some western countries that try to create chaos with the aim of controlling other countries and the will of peoples.
The bilateral Syrian-Russian cooperation and its positive effects on fighting terrorism and restoring stability and security to most Syrian territories were also on the table.
Lavrentiev conveyed the greetings of President Putin to President Al-Assad and to the Syrian people, affirming that Russia attaches great importance to developing relations with Syria and to enhancing cooperation between the institutes of the two countries as well as to supporting the Syrian people to overcome the effects of the war.
He expressed his country’s satisfaction over the indicators that show the return of Syria to its important role in the Arab arena, saying that this happened due to the victories achieved by Syria and the will of its people to defend its land and rebuild it.
President Al-Assad showed appreciation to the efforts exerted by President Putin and officials in Russia at all levels to develop bilateral relations and to back the Syrian people in fighting terrorism.
