President Al-Assad on Teachers Day: Syrians Waging War on Ignorance

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Marking Teachers day,  President Bashar al-Assad and First Lady Mrs. Asmaa Al-Assad on Thursday met a number of teachers who, despite threats by armed terrorist groups, have been keen to carry out their education task.

The President congratulated all the Syrian teachers on their day and hailed the Syrian education sector’s sacrifices during the crisis in the country.

“Targeting teachers and schools unveils the truth about those who are waging the war on Syria and affirms that the Syrians are leading a war on backwardness and ignorance which threaten their society and coming generations,” President Al-Assad said, pointing out that “the steadfastness of the Syrian people, particularly teachers, is the most important element in protecting the country”.

The President hailed brave teachers who were not terrified by the armed terrorist groups’ threats and who insisted to carry on their national duty after realizing that those who threatened them wanted to hinder the process of education in Syria and to deprive students from getting knowledge with the purpose of promoting ignorance and narrow-mindedness in Syria.

Mrs. Asmaa al-Assad, for her part, stressed teachers’ important role in the post-crisis era as they are responsible, along with the families, to raise the awareness of the coming generations about the need to fight ignorance.

For their part, the teachers stressed that they, like other Syrian citizens, will keep working to fulfill their education duty and fight terrorism and ignorance despite threats.

They thanked President Al-Assad and Mrs. Al-Assad for the great attention they accord to education and knowledge.
