President Bashar Al-Assad on Sunday received WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Hanan Belkhi and discussed with her a number of issues related to the WHO’s work in Syria and areas of cooperation between the two sides, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported
President Al-Assad stressed that the fruitful cooperation in these circumstances with the WHO should be based on supporting the health sector in Syria, not only on the principle of helping restore the shortage in equipment and medicines, but also on developing an organizational road map, that starts with the policies and ends up with organized work programs that include requirements and procedures that contribute to helping health cadres keep up to date with medical developments and providing them with expertise.
For her part, Balkhi explained the organization’s plans within the initiatives that are based on building cadres and capabilities in the Middle East region,stressing the organization’s permanent support and continuous endeavor to reduce risks to public health, and enhance the health system in the region through intensifying coordination and mobilizing resources.
