President Al-Assad, Lavrentiev discuss means of enhancing Syrian-Russian strategic relations

President Bashar Al-Assad on Thursday met with Alexander Lavrentiev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the accompanying delegation.

Talks dealt with the Syrian-Russian strategic relations and ways to enhance them in all fields that serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples.

The regional and international situation was also discussed.

President Al-Assad affirmed that the political and media battle is now at its most severe stage in the world which requires more stability and clarity in political positions, referring in this regard to Syria’s position in support of the Russian special military operation in Donbass.

In turn, Lavrentiev indicated that Russia appreciates Syria’s constructive positions since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, and noted that now there are many countries in the world that have come to believe in Russia’s victory.

He said that despite the great pressures pursued by the United States and its allies, the US has failed to isolate Russia and Syria.

Lavrentiev also stressed the need to invest in the rapid developments in the world, pointing out that his country evaluates positively the tripartite meeting that brought together the defense ministers of Syria, Turkey and Russia, and stresses the importance of following up and developing these meetings at the level of foreign ministers.

President Al-Assad clarified that these meetings, in order to be fruitful, must be based on prior coordination and planning between Syria and Russia in order to reach the tangible goals and results that Syria wants from these meetings in accordance with the national principles of the state and the people based on ending the occupation and stopping support for terrorism.
