DAMASCUS, (ST)-President Bashar Al-Assad yesterday issued a decree providing for the Establishment of six new faculties affiliated to the universities of Damascus, Tishreen, al-Baath and Hama.
According to Decree No. 213 of 2014, a faculty of economy is to be established in Sweida province and affiliated to Damascus University, a faculty of pharmacy, affiliated to Damascus University, is to be established in the city of Tartous and a faculty of Sciences, affiliated to Hama University, is also to be established in the city of Messyaf.
The decree also provides for the opening of two faculties of dentistry and economy at al-Baath University in Homs and a faculty of Pharmacy at Hama University.
Higher Education Minister Malek Mohammad Ali told journalists that the decree came within the government’s plan to open new faculties in all Syrian provinces and cities to meet the social needs of citizens and the requirements of development.
“Establishing new faculties in most Syrian cities affirms the state’s keenness to ensure education to all the Syrians and reflects positively on the social, economic and cultural life of citizens. It creates new job opportunities and reduces pressure on universities in main cities,” said the minister.
