President Al-Assad holds talks with Lavrentiev over the return of Syrian refugees to homeland

DAMASCUS, Jul.25, (ST)-Today, President Bashar Al-Assad discussed with the Russian President’s special envoy Alexander Lavrentiev and an accompanying delegation the issue of the return of Syrian refugees and the proposals and ideas being reviewed on the Arab and international level to resolve this issue.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the two sides discussed the Turkish stubbornness  regarding withdrawal from the Syrian territories, and the cross-border humanitarian aid for Syrian civilians who live in the terrorist organizations- held areas, in line with the international humanitarian law and rules of sovereignty.

During the meeting, President Al-Assad affirmed that the US and the West have fabricated a global political and economic crisis and caused a state of global instability with the aim of undermining Russia’s position and its international presence, and they used Ukraine as a tool for this purpose, but the effects of this crisis began to deepen in their countries in terms of living conditions, and the social and economic life.

President Al-Assad added that Russia’s firm stance towards the West and the US is one of the most important factors that are heralding the birth of a multipolar world for which all countries and peoples, that adhere to international law and defend their sovereignty and independence of decision, aspire.

For his part, Lavrentiev, conveyed to President Al-Assad the greetings of President Vladimir Putin, stressing Russia’s continued support for Syria to enhance the security and stability of the Syrian people, as well as cooperation between the two countries to secure a decent return of Syrian refugees.

The Russian diplomat asserted that Russia and Syria are committed to the humanitarian dimension of the Syrian refugees’ issue and they categorically reject all attempts to politicize this issue.
