President Al-Assad holds talks with Iraqi Prime Minister on bilateral ties, issues of common interest
Damascus – During an official ceremony at the People’s Palace on Sunday, President Bashar Al-Assad received the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al-Sudani, who arrived in Syria on an official visit at the head of a delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Fouad Hussein, Minister of Trade Atheer Salman, and Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Lieutenant General Qais Rahima.
Later, President Al-Assad held talks with the Iraqi Prime Minister on bilateral relations between Syria and Iraq, on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including trade exchange, transport and industry, on permanent coordination on various political issues and on joint efforts to combat terrorism.
President Al-Assad and the Iraqi Prime Minister stressed that Iraq and Syria have historical relations that unite the two countries, confirming the continuation of developing these relations at the official and popular levels.
President Al-Assad considered this visit as an opportunity to build an institutional relationship and to boost bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, The Iraqi Prime Minister affirmed that Syria has a special place in the hearts of all Iraqis, and that the Iraqi people are proud of the Syrian people’s steadfastness in the face of the terrorist attacks they have been exposed to.
