“This day is not a run-of-the-mill day,” Syrian promising table tennis player Hind Zaza said after she had received a phone call from President Bashar Al-Assad.
The 12-year-old Olympiad icon, who was the youngest participant in Tokyo Olympics expressed her joy at President Al-Assad’s phone call.
“This day was different from the other days because what President Al-Assad said to me during the phone call will remain as a lamp that will light my way towards the crowning platforms at the Arab and international forums,” Zaza declared, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA).
She added: “ When president Al-Assad told me: I am proud of you, I replied: I could not make you happy in this Olympics but I promise you that I will win medal in 2024 Olympics, which will make all the Syrian happy.”

In recognition of her athletic talent and perseverance to achieve her dreams, and for all her achievements despite her young age, President Bashar Assad held on Thursday phone call with the youngest table-tennis player, who took part in Tokyo Olympics.
The president expressed the Syrians’ pride in Hend Zaza as a promising talent, encouraging her to stick to her ambitions. H.E. told her that all Syrians are awaiting for more achievements to be made by her in the upcoming world participations.
For her part, Zaza expressed her overwhelming joy at the phone call of President Al-Assad and thanked H.E. for encouraging her to achieve the best results in the upcoming sports competitions.
