President Al-Assad Delegates Al-Halqi to Offer Condolences on Mandela’s Death

DAMASCUS,(ST)_ Syria has extended condolences to South Africa on  the loss of national leader, Nelson Mandela.

Prime Minister Dr. Wael al-Halqi, who was delegated by President Bashar Al-Assad, signed a condolence book for Mandela at the Embassy of South Africa in Damascus.

He wrote: “The world had lost one of the symbols of struggle against colonization, slavery, racism and Zionism. He was one of the most important dignitaries that defended human rights and principles of equality, justice, and freedom.”

He underscored that the principles of the late great Mandela will remain as inspiration for peoples that are seeking to realize freedom and justice all over the world, noting that Mandela had fought against discrimination in his country despite his exposure to torture and persecution.

“He fought the racial Zionism being practiced against the Palestinian people and stood by liberation causes, especially the Palestinian cause. He will remain an example to freedom fighters that are defending peoples’ just causes.”

“The Syrian people highly appreciate the big sacrifices offered by South Africa’s people under the leadership of Nelson Mandela to build his country on the basis of justice and equality among all citizens and to achieve his aspirations without foreign dictations,” the premier wrote.

After signing the book of condolences, al-Halqi met the ambassador Shon Benfeldet and discussed with him bilateral ties at all levels.
