President Al-Assad: combating terrorism should be in line with international law

DAMASCUS,(ST)- H.E. President Bashar Al-Assad underscored that combating terrorism should be in line with international law and its success needs the rallying of international efforts and cooperation with the region countries waging war against the threats and risks of terrorism.

H.E. President Al-Assad added during his meeting today with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), Ali Shamkhani, that the fight against terrorism should be away from double standards, still pursued by the West, on top stands the USA, as to achieve undeclared agendas not of interest to the region people.

Confronting the extremist takfiri thinking disseminated by terrorists and fed by some regional countries is of no less importance of fighting those terrorists who slaughter, spread destruction and destroy the civilized heritage of the people, H.E. President Al-Assad pointed out.

The fighting against terrorism could not be carried out by the countries which contributed to the creation of the terrorist organisations, provided logistic and financial support to these organizations and spread terrorism worldwide, underlined H.E. President Al-Assad.

On his part, Mr. Shamkhani reiterated Iran’s firm stand in support to Syria and to the steadfastness of Syrians in the war against terrorism, stressing Iran’s rejection to whatever might threaten Syria’s territorial integrity and unity and to whatever might violate Syria’s sovereignty, safeguarded by international laws and conventions.

The talks during the meeting dealt with the standing close relations between both sisterly countries, the importance of continued bolstering of the standing strategic cooperation, the basic pillar for defending the interests of Syrian, Iranian, and of all the region people against standing challenges, on top of them the takfiri terrorism, threatening the near as well as far countries.
