President Bashar Al-Assad on Saturday awarded the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus Mahdi Sobhani the Syrian Order of Merit of excellent degree in recognition of his efforts to enhance the Syrian-Iranian relations and for his dedication to his duty.
The order was presented to Sobhani by Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Sousan.
During a farewell ceremony held in Damascus on the occasion of the end of Sobhani’s tenure as Iran’s Ambassador to Syria, Sousan said that President Al-Assad issued a decree awarding the Syrian Order of Merit of excellent degree to Ambassador Sobhani in appreciation of his efforts in boosting the Syrian-Iranian ties and to affirm the strategic relations between the two countries.
Sousan hailed Iran’s firm stances in support for Syria in the face of the unjust war.
He clarified that the Syrian-Iranian relations are deep-rooted and solid based on a set of values, principles and positions, foremost of which is respecting the sovereignty of states and the right of peoples to life and to own their national choices.
For his part, Ambassador Sobhani expressed his gratitude to President Al-Assad for granting him the order of merit, which “will be an incentive to continue working to strengthen bilateral relations. He thanked to the Syrian government and people.
The Iranian diplomat pointed out that the Syrian-Iranian relations are deep , strategic and distinguished, and that there is great cooperation in the political, military, economic, cultural, scientific and educational fields.
He noted cooperation in different fields, including in the political domain, as well as consultations and regular visits of delegations from both sides. He also noted the agreements signed to serve the interest of the two peoples and boost cooperation at the regional and international levels.
