Damascus (ST) – President Bashar Al-Assad received the Iranian Foreign Minister’s Senior Advisor for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji and the accompanying delegation.
President Al-Assad stressed the depth of relations between Syria and Iran, and the strength of cooperation and coordination between the two sides in various fields.
Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad met with Khaji and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as the latest regional and international developments.
The two sides affirmed the need to enhance the Syrian-Iranian relations and to continue coordination for the interest of the two friendly peoples.
In a statement to reporters, Khaji said that his visit to Syria is part of a tour that aims at discussing regional issues especially those related to bilateral relations and their future.
He indicated that his talks with Mr. Al-Mikdad focused on joint evaluation of bilateral and regional issues and on setting the goals concerning these issues.
The Iranian official calrified that the new Iranian government has the will and determination to enhance the relations with Syria in all fields, pointing out that this was stressed during the phone call between President Bashar Al-Assad and Iranian President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian.
