President Bashar Al-Assad on Saturday received Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and the accompanying delegation.
The two sides discussed strategic relations between the two countries and the joint efforts to boost them through preparing executive programs and expanding cooperation fields mainly in economy and trade to serve the interests of the peoples of both countries.
Developments on the ground in Syria were also discussed.
President Al-Assad reiterated that Syria will continue the fight to liberate all its territories from terrorism and to end any illegal foreign presence on its land.
Talks between President Al-Assad and Abdollahian also dealt with regional and international developments. The two sides affirmed the need to continue political consultation and coordination, particularly because Syria and Iran’s identical policies and points of view on the challenges facing the region have proven that they were right.
Discussions also covered the situation in Afghanistan and its impacts on countries of the region.
In this regard, President Al-Assad said that the withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan should be an opportunity for the neighboring countries to come up with a common vision for establishing civil peace there, for thwarting any attempt to turn this country into a terrorist hotbed and for preventing any foreign interference by some countries that aim at exploiting this withdrawal to impose their own agendas.
Abdollahian briefed President A-Assad on the negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear file and on the Iranian government’s efforts to achieve sustainable development and enhance cooperation with its neighbors to break the blockade and sanctions imposed on the Iranian people.
