Damascus (ST) – Damascus Countryside Governorate, in coordination with the Syria Trust for Development and the Damascene Rose Association, has completed the necessary preparations to launch the Damascene Rose Harvest Festival, which is scheduled to be held on the 25th of this month.
The harvest festival, which is held annually in Al-Marah village in Al-Nabak region, is considered as social and heritage ritual for the village’s people.
Head of the Al-Marah Association for the Revival and Development of the Damascene Rose, Madian Al-Bitar, stated that coordination has been made with all parties considered partners of the association to follow up on preparations for the rose-harvest season.
He noted that it is planned to set up a temporary restaurant in the place where the festival will be held to encourage the local community women to work in it.
Al-Bitar stressed that the areas planted with the Damascene Rose in the village increased by about 200 dunums.
In 2019, the Damascene Rose was inscribed in the list of intangible human heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
