DAMASCUS- The Syrian government is keen to enhance its economic cooperation and trade exchange with South Africa, stressed Prime Minster Wael al-Halqi.
Al-Halqi, who was speaking to the Ambassador of South Africa Shaun Byneveldt on Monday, affirmed the need to benefit from the distinguished the South African experience in achieving good economic and agricultural development and settling investments in addition to its experience in attaining national reconciliation among the people of South Africa.
“The deeply-rooted and growing ties between the two countries under the leadership of President Bashar Al-Assad and President Jocob Zuma should be accompanied by growing and distinguished economic relations,” said al-Halqi.
He urged South African businessmen and companies to carry out investments in Syria and to take part in the process of building and reconstruction the country will witness soon.
The premier hailed South Africa’s supportive stances on Syria at international forums and highly appreciated the country’s solidarity with the Syrian people in the confrontation of the global war being waged on their homeland.
He pointed out that the growing role of the BRICS Grouping states as a major political and economic player at the international arena has produced a new axis that stands against the axis of colonialism, oppression and hegemony.
The prime minister reiterated that Syria will firmly continue to fight terrorism and restore security and stability to every inch of the Syrian lands, noting to the great victories being attained by the Syrian Arab Army in its battle against terrorism and the foreign-backed armed terrorist groups and mercenaries.
He also affirmed the Syrian government’s keenness to take part in the Geneva II conference with an open mind and through national dialogue that draws up Syria’s bright future and enhances the country’s democratic experience.
For his part the South African Ambassador asserted his country’s willingness to have best economic and trade relations with Syria. He expressed his hope that peace and security will be restored to Syria after terrorism is eliminated.
