TEHRAN, (ST)- Prime Minister Imad Khamis started on Monday an official visit to Iran leading a government delegation for talks with Iranian officials on boosting economic relations, following up the agreements signed between Syria and Iran and enhancing cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
Khamis was welcomed at Muhr Abad Airport by Iran’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Masoud Soltanifar, the Syrian Ambassador in Tehran Adnan Mahmoud and the Syrian Embassy staff.
The delegation accompanying Khamis comprises ministers of agriculture, industry, economy and foreign trade, oil and mineral resources and technology and communications. It also comprises Secretary General of the Cabinet, Head of Planning and International Cooperation, Governor of the Central bank of Syria and Director of Oil Marketing office.
The Iranian media also highlighted Khamis visit to Tehran.
According to Press TV, Khamis visits Tehran at the official invitation of Iranian First Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri.
He is expected to hold talks with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani.
Talks between the Syrian premier and the SNSC secretary will focus on the continuation of consultations between the two countries, pursuit of agreements reached between Tehran and Damascus in economic, political and security areas and the adoption of strategies to safeguard and further the recent achievements made in Syria, particularly after the liberation of the strategic city of Aleppo from the foreign-backed militants.
Shamkhani and Khamis will also exchange views about ways to improve economic relations.
