Premier discusses with FAO ways of building more active partnership to have positive impact on agricultural sector
DAMASCUS, May.12, (ST)-Prime Minister Hussein Arnous received on Thursday Abdel Hakim Al-Waer, Assistant Director-General of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Mike Robson, the resident representative of the organization in Damascus and the accompanying delegation.
The talks during the meeting focused on the ways of enhancing cooperation between the Syrian government and FAO and building a more active partnership that leads to positive impact on the agrarian sector.
The premier referred to the damages caused to the agricultural sector, farmers and livestock breeders as a result of the terrorism to which Syria was exposed, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
For his part, Al-Waer pointed out to the importance of putting programs and priorities that meet the needs of agriculture.He also showed willingness to enhance cooperation between FAO and the Syrian government with the aim of achieving the hoped-for results in improving the agricultural situation, supporting several projects and investment in agricultural infrastructures, empowering farmers to be active in agricultural investment, enhancing sustainable management of lands and water and reducing the cost of production.
