Aleppo (ST): The Protestant Armenian Church of Bethel hosted an evening of prayer commemorating the 108th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The heads of the Armenian sects in Aleppo, Archbishop Makar Ashkaryan, of Aleppo and its dependencies for the Armenian Orthodox, Bishop Boutros Marayati, Archbishop of Aleppo and its dependencies for the Armenian Catholics, and Rev. Dr. Harutyun Suleiman, head of the Armenian Protestant community in Syriaand a group of clerics and worshipers attended the event.
Rev. Dr. Harutyun Suleiman said in a statement to SANA news reporter that the worshipers’ meeting in the evening is far from crying and remembering the pains, rather, it represents a pause in honor of the martyrs who rose for the sake of the homeland, faith and belonging.
He said: Syria is the biggest eyewitness to what the Armenian people were subjected to at the hands of the Ottomans more than a hundred years ago, and in turn it formed that environment that re-pumped the blood of life and continuity for the Armenians seeking a homeland, belonging and identity.
The researcher on Turkish affairs, Dr. Sarkis Bornessian, also indicated that the Syrian and Armenian peoples commemorate the Armenian genocide to demand their rights and denounce the Turkish occupation of the Syrian territories and the Turkish aggression against the Syrians with all their components.
On the other hand, many worshipers participated after the prayer in a march of torches organized by the Syrian Youth Cultural Club in the Armenian Orthodox cemeteries.
