Pope Twadros : ” I am Very Hurt over What is Happening in Syria”

CAIRO,(ST) ”  Syria is a dear country  and  of great value for us  . We do not forget its cling to Arabism nor the Egyptian-Syrian unity and I’m very hurt over what is happening in it,” said His Holiness Pope Twadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Episcopate.
In an interview, published on Monday  in the Egyptian al-Osbo paper, Pope Twadros added that the  crisis in Syria  is complex and one of the reasons  of its complexity  is the intervention of many parties , noting if countries that wanted to faithfully  help  it would have supported the official  and legitimate authority to reach a solution through dialogue .

Pope Twadros  stressed that, ” would the Arabs  united to resolve the crisis peacefully and through dialogue, this would be more useful for Syria and the region.
Talking about so-called ” Arab spring revolutions ” and  its negative repercussions  on the region, Pope Twadros said:” “Any movement by  the people should have a goal . As for Egypt the revolution has been kidnapped and therefore the society was paralyzed , because it  did not start with a structured  thinking and specific steps, nor  have clear leadership .”

As for the  situation of  the Copts in Egypt, the  Pope considered  they are marginalized politically and are socially alienated,  criticizing Salafi satellite channels, which provide a false and distorted image  about Islam , contribute to the destruction of society and have a negative impact on the image of Islam in the West.
