Polyansky: Washington and London refused to discuss a Security Council statement on the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus

Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky announced that the United States and Britain refused to discuss a draft statement prepared by Russia for the UN Security Council regarding the Israeli aggression against the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
TASS news agency quoted Polyansky as saying yesterday in a post on Telegram: “At the conclusion of the UN Security Council meeting the day before yesterday regarding the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Russia prepared a draft statement for the Council, the text of which is traditional for such cases, but the United States and Britain did not even want to discuss it”, considering that during the meeting there was no consensus on assessing what happened.”
Polyansky pointed out that Washington, London and Paris “did not condemn this blatant violation of international law, but rather began a verbal evasion from which it was possible to conclude that Iran itself bears responsibility for this, and this is the best evidence of the double standards of the Western Troika and its true position on law and legitimacy in the international context.”
Polyansky had said that his country’s delegation, “in agreement with the Iranian and Syrian colleagues, distributed a draft press statement to the Security Council condemning this attack,” considering it “another opportunity to test the true intentions of Western colleagues”.
