Polyansky: Establishing a Palestinian state is a prerequisite for achieving peace in the Middle East

Russian Deputy Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky has stressed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is a necessary condition for achieving peace in the Middle East.

“What is taking place in Gaza Strip clearly confirms what Russia has been warning of for many years”, Polyansky said during a session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to the RT website

He stressed “the Palestinians must use their right to establish their state with Jerusalem (Quds) as its capital. This is a just position based on international law and it is the only one that can lead to achieving stable peace in the region.

Polyansky underscored that it is necessary, above all, to stop the bloodshed and prevent escalation in the region, noting that the stagnation in the Middle East settlement is the result of the United States’ attempts to monopolize mediation efforts and its endeavor to activate its narrow interests.

“Russia always calls for a stable negotiation process on the platform agreed upon by the United Nations, which must lead to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.” he said.
