The Forestry Department in Lattakia Agriculture Directorate, in cooperation with the “Souk Al-Dayaa ” Association, started a voluntary afforestation campaign in Baluran in Lattakia Governorate, which included the planting of 700 seedlings of carob and pine trees.
Head of the association, Zina Walid, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the campaign, which started last week, included planting 300 pine and carob saplings in Baluran. The campaign’s aim is to increase vegetation cover, especially in places that have been exposed to fires, reduce desertification and global warming, and protect soil from erosion.
Issam Suleiman, Head of the Forestry Division of Qastal Maaf, said in a similar statement that the campaign began in the site of Baluran, and later the site of the field, which is 5 km from Baluran, will be forested.
