Planning and International Cooperation Commission discusses Prospects of Cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank

Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Commission Musab Badawi discussed on Monday with a delegation from the Islamic Development Bank, headed by the Director General of Country Programs, Anas Issami, prospects of developing cooperation and resuming work between the two parties, after a hiatus of approximately 13 years.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed mechanisms to support Syria’s path towards recovery and sustainable development, which would contribute to capacity building and training youth to establish and finance small and medium-sized development projects.

The Head of the Commission affirmed its full readiness to cooperate with the Bank and develop relations, while striving to increase projects and closely monitor them, thus contributing to achieving economic and social development.

For his part, Anas Issami clarfied that this is the first official visit to Syria since 2012 and comes within the framework of exploring reconstruction opportunities, avenues for economic cooperation, identifying renewed development needs, and areas in which the Bank can contribute to recovery efforts.

Issami added: The Islamic Development Bank is committed to supporting Syria during this important phase to contribute to economic recovery and promote sustainable growth.

It is worth noting that Syria regained its membership in the Islamic Development Bank on March 16 of this year.
