Photography, ceramics and Arabic calligraphy exhibition 2020 celebrates heritage and nature in Syria

Within the activities of the Syrian Plastic Art Days, the Directorate of Fine Arts at the Ministry of Culture organized the annual exhibition of photography, ceramics and Arabic calligraphy at the People’s Hall in Damascus.

The art works of  the exhibition were  dominated by images of heritage and inspired by nature and its components.

Emad Kashout, Director of Fine Arts told SANA that the exhibition showcased  dozens  of  photography, ceramics and calligraphy  art works by prominent  artists  who have unique imprint in these arts.

He  stressed the ministry’s support to all artistic  creativities  because they stem from the surroundings of the Syrian heritage and  society.

Artist Jalal Sheikho, a teacher of calligraphy and photography  considered that some of the calligraphy  paintings  are at  a global level, pointing  to the classic aspect of the participating art  works.

Artist Sheikho highlighted that the  Arabic calligraphy  is full of creativity, as it is one of the finest calligraphy arts in the world.

Rama Hesham Magik, a teacher of calligraphy at the Applied Arts Institute, participated in a painting of a verse that she wrote in Nisaburi Kufic script and a lettering background technique.

She indicated  that she sought through her painting to leave traditionalism, expressing   her happiness with this exhibition because it  provided  a large number of calligraphers with an opportunity   to meet  and highlight  their art..

Artist, Lina Qabsi, indicated that she participated in a piece of ceramics which  she called  “ an inspiration” because it came in the form of a broken piece, in an attempt through which  the artist  seeks to address  a message that we can rebuild from the shattered things , expressing the fact  that we will rebuild Syria despite the destruction caused by the nine-year brutal war.
