Pezeshkian: Iran is facing an economic war to weaken it

Tehran (ST) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed that Iran is facing a large-scale economic war in an attempt by its enemies to weaken it, and therefore it must seek by all means to confront and overcome this war.

Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Pezeshkian as saying in a speech today: “Today’s war is an economic war, not a war of bombs and missiles. We have missiles so that they dare not attack us; therefore they are trying to create economic problems, which requires seeking to overcome them.”

Pezeshkian stressed that Iran has produced missiles to defend itself and prevent the scenario in Gaza where the Israeli regime drops bombs whenever and wherever it wants.

The Iranian President indicated that the West, which brags about human rights and objects to Iran’s defensive policies, continues to support the crimes committed by this entity, including killing children, women and defenceless civilians, and not allowing aid, bread and water to reach civilians.

Baghaei: US presence in the region is the cause of instability

In another development, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei affirmed that the US presence in the region is causing instability.

He said on Monday at his weekly press briefing in Tehran that: “This does not affect our determination to defend ourselves, but it is necessary for regional countries to work together to ensure the security of the region.”

“Support for the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity is a principle. The patterns of our response to the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression are also clear, and it is natural that we use all material and spiritual resources to respond to the Zionist regime’s aggression”, Baghaei added.

Baghaei noted that Iran’s official position is clear in rejecting weapons of mass destruction and regarding the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

“There is not any reason for resorting to Resolution 2231 mechanisms, because Iran still adheres to its commitments under the nuclear agreement, officially called the JCPOA”, he stated, adding that Iran started to cross certain limitations on its nuclear program only a year after the US withdrew from the JCPOA and the European signatories to the agreement failed to compensate for Washington’s pullout.

Responding to a question on changes in The Hague’s judicial panel and the pursuit of legal action against Zionist regime officials, Baghaei said that the Islamic Republic has supported all measures aimed at confronting the Zionist regime’s impunity and holding its officials accountable for crimes in Gaza and Lebanon.
