People’s Assembly: Martyrs Day a glorious station in Syria’s contemporary history

Damascus (ST) – The People’s Assembly affirmed that the anniversary of May 6 is a link in a series of gloriuos stations in the contemporary history of Syria, when the free, struggling ancestors defended their homeland in the face of the brutal Ottoman occupation, and sacrificed their souls on the altar of freedom and dignity.

The Assembly stated on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day: The convoys of martyrs continued in the face of the treacherous Ottoman occupation, followed by the French colonizers, and then the martyrs who fell in battles of honour against the usurping Zionist entity, stressing the Syrians’ belonging to their homeland, and the strength of their will in the face of injustice and aggression.

The Assembly noted that today’s battle is the same as the battle of the past even if its forms, tools and names have changed, adding that: “For more than 13 years, Syria has been exposed to the ugliest types of wars, sieges, and aggression from the forces of evil and global terrorism and their financiers and operators, from the same enemy that still dreams of controlling Syria’s people and resoyrces.”

The Assembly expressed its appreciation and pride in the great sacrifices made by our heroic martyrs, indicating the commitment to the covenant and the preservation of the trust in continuing to defend Syria with the unity of its people, army, and the wisdom of its leader, Mr. President Bashar al-Assad.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the memory of the martyrs of May 6 will remain a torch and leader that illuminates the path of free people.
