On March 12th, the People’s Assembly(Parliament) , under the chairmanship of Speaker Hamouda Sabbagh, commemorated the sixtieth anniversary of the Revolution of the 8th of March.
In a speech to the People’s Assembly, Sabbagh stressed that the March Revolution represented, over sixty years, a clear intellectual approach based on the aspirations of the masses and the ability of the people of the country to change history of Syria.
Sabbagh said the goals, principles and values of March were crystallized as a result of the Correctionist Movement under the leadership of the founding leader, Hafez al-Assad.
Sabbagh made it clear that the building laid down by the Baath Revolution in March sixty years ago, through the phases of correction, modernization and development, continued steadfast in the face of the fiercest wars, conspiracies, sieges and unjust sanctions.
Sabbagh referred to the awareness of the Syrian people and their firm national unity and their cohesion behind their army and its leader, Mr. President Bashar al-Assad.
At the end of the speech, Sabbagh saluted the spirit of the founding leader, Hafez al-Assad, the souls of the martyrs of the homeland, and the souls of the victims of the devastating earthquake.
In their turn, a number of Members of the People’s Assembly affirmed that the March 8 Revolution constituted a fundamental focal point in contemporary Syrian history through the achievements that included all aspects of life.
The People’s Assembly continued discussing the articles of the new draft law on fees, insurance and judicial expenses, as it approved by the majority a number of the draft articles.
The session, which was attended by the Minister of State for People’s Assembly Affairs, Abdullah Abdullah, was adjourned to 12:00 noon on Monday.
