People of Occupied Syrian Golan Reject So-called “Local Councils Elections” Imposed on Them by Israeli Occupation

QUNEITRA, (ST)- People of the Syrian Golan have rejected participation in the so-called “local councils elections” imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities on occupied Golan in a bid to judaize the land and people of this occupied Syrian territory.

In a statement, the Golan people said the so-called “local councils” elections are illegal and they contradicts Geneva convention on the treatment of civilian population under occupation.

They affirmed that the new Zionist move comes within the framework of the occupation’s attempts to separate the Syrian Golan from the Syrian national sovereignty.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has earlier stressed that it rejects the Israeli occupation’s holding of the “local councils” elections, due in October in the villages of the occupied Syrian Golan, with the aim of annexing this land. The ministry reiterated that Golan is part and parcel of the Syrian land and it will sooner or later return to Syria.

Liberated Syrian captive Bishr al-Maqt told SANA reporter that “the Golan, as a people, history and civilization, is a part of the motherland, Syria. We won’t stop struggling until it is liberated.”

The people of  the occupied Golan rejected the Israeli identity and issued the National Document on January 14th, 1981. On February 14th, 1982, they announced an open strike that lasted for six months to protest the Israeli occupation’s plans to impose Israeli laws and identity on the Syrian Golan people.
