People Assembly: Regaining Alexandretta will remain at the forefront of the Syrian people’s priorities

Damascus (ST) –The  People’s Assembly stated that restoring  usurped Alexandretta will remain at the top of the priorities of the Syrian people’s ongoing struggle until full restoration of rights .

In a statement on the 83rd anniversary of the usurpation of Alexandretta on 29 November 1939, the Assembly confirmed that the brutal French occupation forces paved the way for the entry of the invading Turkish forces. The Turkish forces worked from the beginning to consolidate their occupation policy through a systematic process of Turkification of Alexandretta, in contravention of the system established by the League of Nations as an international organization.

The Assembly stressed that the Turkish role continues with its attacks that ithas been  carrying  out for more than eleven years; the brutal massacres against the Syrians, the theft of the Syrian oil and factories, bombing the homes of the civilians, in addition to cutting off water supplies to more than a million citizens in Hasakah city and its vicinity. These attacks constitute a flagrant violation of all international norms, covenants, and laws, and a clear violation of the Charter of Human Rights and international humanitarian law.

The Assembly pointed out that our people are determined to achieve final victory over the terrorism supported by the US and its allies, dedicating the time of victories to the liberation of the rest of the Syrian lands that are under the yoke of terrorism, including the occupied Syrian Arab Golan and Alexandretta.
