The UN envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen said: “I am concerned about reports of clashes in the coastal areas of Syria and civilian casualties . There is an immediate need for restraint by all sides and to ensure that the protection of civilians is respected in accordance with international law.”

“All parties should refrain from actions that could destabilize Syria and undermine the political transition.” Pedersen added.
