Patriarch Lahham: Terrorism Doesn’t Differentiate between Moslems, Christians

CAIRO- The terrorism hitting the region doesn’t differentiate between Moslems and Christians, as it targets people’s national unity and coexistence,  Patriarch Gregory III Lahham of Antioch and All the East for the Melkite Greek Catholic Church has stressed.

Interviewed by the Egyptian “al-Ahram” newspaper on the sideline of his visit to Cairo to take part in Christmas celebrations, the patriarch urged Western countries, which support terrorism in Syria, Egypt, Iraq and other places to hand off Arab countries and send them peace instead of sending them weapons.

Lahham called on the Western and European countries “to support Geneva II Conference instead of providing the terrorists in Syria with weapons” hoping that the conference will be a success so as to attain security and stability in the entire region.

He hailed the steadfastness of the Syrian people and their adherence to national unity despite the challenges and threats posed by the foreign-backed takfiri groups.

Lahham affirmed that the so-called “Arab Spring” has had negative impacts on the region, as it brought neither democracy nor freedom or justice, but caused more problems and disasters.

The patriarch referred to the positive change in the Egyptian stance on the crisis in Syria, pointing out that the Syrian-Egyptian ties will witness further development.
