Patriarch Lahham Renews Call for Ending Foreign-Backed Terrorist War in Syria

BEIRUT, (ST)- Patriarch Gregorios III Laham, Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, has renewed his call for ending the foreign-backed terrorist war waged on Syria and other countries in the region. He has also urged stopping the flow of terrorists into Syria.  

In a statement at the opening of the Synod of Bishops of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church on Monday in the village of En Terz in Aley district, eastern Lebanon, patriarch Lahham called for attaining peace and stability in countries of region and for putting an end to violence and destruction in these countries.

 He urged the West, which claims protecting and defending human rights but keeps silent over crisis in the Middle East, to shoulder its responsibilities and be unified as to confront the danger of terrorism, particularly that of “Daesh” terrorist organization.

Concerning Lebanon, the patriarch called on all Lebanese parties, ministers, MPs, as well as religious, political and social figures to work hard as to accelerate the process of electing a president of the Lebanese Republic.

He noted that the current economic, security, social and living conditions in Lebanon, besides terrorism threats necessitate that all should put Lebanon’s interest at the top of priorities.
