Patriarch Ephrem II: We are committed to Syria’s unity, and we hope that the unjust sanctions will be lifted
Patriarch of Antioch and all the East for the Syriac Orthodox, Supreme Head of the Syriac Church in the world Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II expressed his hope that friendly countries would stand by Syria’s side to lift and end the unjust coercive economic measures imposed by the West on its people.
During a meeting in Cairo with the parishioners of the church and the Syrian community in Egypt on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year, Patriarch Ephrem II said
: “We direct our prayers and hope that the reconstruction will take place completely.Unfortunately, we are victims of those who speak in the name of democracy, but their intentions are different.”
Patriarch Ephrem II added: “Syria is recovering day after day and is waiting for its people to contribute to the reconstruction process after the cosmic war that killed people and stones and did not differentiate between a mosque and a church,”
Patriarch Ephrem II called for the need to reveal the fate of Bishops Paul Yazigi, Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo and Yohanna Ibrahim, Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo.
The two were kidnapped by terrorist organizations, in addition to dozens of Syrian scholars and their missing sons.
For his part, Dr. Bassam Darwish, Chargé d’Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Cairo, praised the remarkable successes achieved by the Syrians in Egypt and the rest of the expatriates.
Dr. Bassam Darwish pointed to the importance of the industrialists’ return to their country and their contribution to its reconstruction.
