Participants in the Syrian-Russian History Forum visit the ancient city of Palmyra

Homs (ST): The participants in the first youth forum on Syrian-Russian history visited the historical city of Palmyra, where they were briefed on the most prominent monuments in the city and its ancient civilization.

Regarding the visit of the forum, which was attended by about 150 young men and women from Syria and Russia, Nour Melhem, the media official in the forum, said in a statement to news reporter that this activity aims to develop Syrian-Russian youth’s knowledge of Syria’s richness in archaeological and tourist sites and its cultural heritage.

She pointed out that the visit to Palmyra comes in this context in order to restore the glamour of tourism to it, especially since this city is considered an open-air museum and a cultural center that is unparalleled in the world.

Archaeological expert Timur Karmov, director of the Russian Legion for Heritage Protection, said in a similar statement that the archaeological site of Palmyra is of great importance to researchers in cultural and historical affairs, especially since this city is registered on the World Heritage List.

He pointed out that the sabotage of the human heritage as a result of the attacks of the terrorist organization “ISIS” on the antiquities of the city was aimed at harming people before the quarantine, and that what these terrorists committed is a crime against all of humanity.
