Papal Ambassador in Damascus Calls for Supporting the Syrian People to Build Better Syria

ALEPPO, (ST)- The Papal Ambassador in Damascus Cardinal Mario Zenari has stressed that “the Syrians are a life-loving people and all should support them to build better Syria that enjoys national cohesion and diversity.”

Visiting Aleppo province on Sunday to know about the destruction caused to the city, particularly the worshipping places, Cardinal Zenari affirmed that “the Vatican is interested in Syria with all its spectra and it works to establish peace and security in the country and to provide assistance to those who need.”

The cardinal visited several worshipping places and saw the huge destruction caused to these places. There, he met clergymen and listened to an explanation about the suffering of the people of Aleppo  from terrorists over the past years.

Secretary of the Aleppo Baath Party branch Fadel Najjar said during his meeting with Zenari and the accompanying delegation that the war being waged on Syria aims at undermining national unity and the harmony between all components of the Syrian people.

“Terrorism targeted the city’s worshipping places and infrastructure and committed atrocities, but the steadfastness of the people of Aleppo foiled all schemes,” said Najjar, hailing the role of the Church and the Vatican during the crisis in Syria.

“The Pope prayed for peace in Syria and the Vatican provided aid to the people of Aleppo and helped rehabilitate the houses of the poor people affected by terrorism.
