Palestinians welcome the position of the African Union leaders in support of the rights of the Palestinian people

On February 7th, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki welcomed the position of the leaders of the African Union in support of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establishing their independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Maliki stressed the importance of African leaders’ rejection in the conclusion statement of their 34th summit, which was held via the Internet, of the racist policies of the Israeli occupation authorities and the policy of ethnic cleansing aimed at consolidating their annexation of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967, especially Jerusalem.

The statement of the 34th African Summit, which was held over two days, stressed the necessity of preserving the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and continuing its work.

The African leaders called for the necessity of lifting the unjust Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, which was imposed for years and caused a major humanitarian crisis.
